What to Expect

On your first visit to Community Acupuncture Works, you will be asked to fill out standard health intake and history forms. We will then have a brief consultation with you to go over your chief complaint and relevant health history. This is a good time to address any questions or concerns you may have. We will then determine a treatment plan and needles will be inserted into specific points along pertinent meridians. The rest of your time will be spent relaxing in your recliner.

During your acupuncture treatment it is common to experience any number of sensations, such as tingling or a sense of heaviness in the body, and a deep feeling of relaxation. Many patients fall asleep during their acupuncture treatment.

Depending upon your constitution and particular complaint, we will recommend a course of treatment that may require multiple visits. Acupuncture’s effectiveness is cumulative, and patience may be necessary especially if dealing with a long term, chronic condition.

Most acute conditions can be treated quicker. The frequency of visits may vary from 1 to 3 per week. Most people do not need 3 treatments a week and if they do require that many it will generally be for a short period of 1-2 weeks. On subsequent visits, we will have a quick check in with you to see how you have been feeling since your last treatment to monitor your progress before inserting your needles.

Things to keep in mind before your treatment

  • Try to avoid caffeine within 3 hours of your appointment.
  • It’s best to have something light to eat an hour or so before your treatment, avoid being too hungry or too full during your treatment.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows for easy access to areas below your arms and legs.
  • Please do not wear any perfumes or scented products within the clinic. Many patients are very sensitive to fragrances, including pregnant women and those undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.
  • Quiet is greatly appreciated in the clinic. Please silence cell phones and speak softly. A peaceful atmosphere will enhance your relaxation and the relaxation of others.

Policies

  • Payments are due at the time of service. We accept cash or check. Kindly give 24-hour notice if you are unable to make your appointment. A fee of $20 will be charged for missed or late canceled or rescheduled appointments.
  • We are unable to accept insurance due to our sliding scale fee; this is the insurance companies’ rule. We are happy to provide you a receipt to submit for reimbursement.
